I am an Accredited member of the Yacht Designer & Surveyors Association (YDSA) and as a qualified marine surveyor carry out a variety of boat surveys and marine services for clients situated throughout the UK and Europe. As a boat surveyor based near Truro in Cornwall I am well placed to carry out yacht surveys in the marinas and boatyards of Devon and Cornwall. I travel regularly throughout the South West of England to survey boats and cover the remainder of the UK and Europe by appointment.
There are two main types of boat survey the condition survey, which is strongly recommended when purchasing a new vessel and the structural survey, sometimes called an insurance survey. The insurance or re-insurance survey is carried out so that the insurance company can decide whether or not the boat is an acceptable risk, they will also want to know the vessel’s market value. A valuation survey or valuation inspection can only be carried out after a condition or structural survey. A damage survey is usually requested by the insurance underwriters to determine the extent of damage, recommend repairs and estimate repair costs.
